GOP, Coleman, media run now against...the Wellstone Memorial

All day long the PR media got their knickers in a bunch over the Wellstone Memorial being "over the top" "too partisan". Jesse Ventura said something about Dems having to be ashames and this stupid quote was on the screens non-stop. As someone said, not having Wellstone to campaign against, they attack his memorial. Pathetic.
No One Wore the Senator Title Better or Used it Less

Said Harkin of Wellstone at last night's memorial which gathered the best and brightest. One could almost see his spirit soaring above us all and then the eagle story confirmed it: David Wellstone spoke of an eagle being spotted when Wellstone visited an Indian reservation and how it was said that it was a good omen. An eagle was present at the crash site - maybe we all needed his fighting spirit - he'll be our battle cry now.

Bush won't go to Wellstone funeral, Chenney is disinvited.Newt's lies revealed

Ari was citing history to legitimize Bush's absence from Wellstone's memorial (guess no one told that to Clinton so he went to Chaffe's).Bush* does plan to go to Minnesota a few days after, to campaign.
And, disgusted with the GOP attacks on Mondale before he even announced he'd run, the family asked Chenney to not bother to show up.

Poor GOP, they Hafta Smear

Not even waiting until Wellstone was burried or Mondale actually announced his candidacy,
Newtie was on the talk show circuit, spreading lies about him being for "privatizing Social
Security". Howard Kurtz from Washington Post defends this:
"Can Republicans be expected to say nothing while the Democrats try to ride
Wellstone's memory to victory?"

Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wellstone:

While he may have stood alone sometimes on the Senate Floor, we all respected his convictions. On October 15th, at the close of his last debate, Senator Wellstone said, "I don't represent the pharmaceutical companies, I don't represent the big oil companies, I don't represent the big health insurance industry, I don't represent the big financial institutions. But you know what, I represent the people of Minnesota."
That may be his most fitting tribute--the way he represented the people from the state he so deeply loved. He did it so well, according to his principles, and he will be sorely missed.

Bush: "My condoleances for the loss of the Senate"

Paging Dr Freud.
The way the White House transcripts are cleaning this one up is...by pretending that the Chinese guy said it:
"
PRESIDENT JIANG: Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen. I just
learned that one plane crashed. I would like to express my deep
condolences for the loss of the Senate. And also I would like to
express my condolences to the bereaved family.
Statement about Paul Wellstone

Paul Wellstone was one a kind. He was a man of principle and conviction, in a
world that has too little of either. He was dedicated to helping the little guy, in a
business dominated by the big guys. We who had the privilege of working with him
hope that he will be remembered as he lived everday as a champion for people.

His family was the center of his life and it breaks our hearts that his wife of 39
years and his daughter Marcia were with him. Our prayers are with Mark and David
and the grandchildren he and Sheila cherished so much.

Senator Wellstone Killed

The one true liberal voice in the senate is silenced. I don't know if I am more saddened than scared.

Bush Sr says Bush* is Facing the Greatest Problems since Lincoln

due to the shadowy nature of the terrorism. He even implies FDR had it easy in comparison. Now, there's nothing new about terrorism and there's no terrorist today that Poppy didn't prop up yesterday. It's nice to see that the grandiosity runs in the family. So, I guess, somehow the Churchill/ FDR metaphors didn't stick. Oh, well, a civil war was one thing I did not expect...

Rush Limbaugh Misses the Days of Fixing Zogby Polls

In his show and on his website, a hurt Rush is accusing Zogby of "shucking and jiving his polls for the Democrats" (he doesn't seem to like the latest numbers). That is inexcusable since in the past Rush waxes nostalgic about, he got to ask some of the questions in those polls. Must have been the time Zogby was busted by the village Voice for blatant GOP bias. That's OK, Rush. I don't believe those numbers either.
White House hid the North Korean Nuke Info from Senate

Tom Daschle found out from the newspapers and not even Trent Lott was deemed reliable enough to be told. The chickenhawks in charge assure us that no matter what Korea already has, we go after what Iraq might develop. And in the meanwhile Bush* is fundraising at taxpayers expense.
Rightwingers giddy with the thought of raping and pillaging US (before they get to do it to Iraq)

With the elections 16 days away, Michael G. Franc, the Heritage Foundation's vice
president of government relations, said the mood among business lobbyists and
economic conservatives is "guarded optimism, bordering on giddiness." He said they
are laying plans to take swift advantage if Republicans complete the triple crown of
the White House, the House and the Senate. "It's the domestic equivalent of
planning for postwar Iraq," Franc said.

We Attack Iraq because They might get Nukes. Korea has Them, Because...

BBC News:
"President George W Bush waived the Framework's requirement
that North Korea
allow inspectors to ensure it has not hidden away any
weapons-grade plutonium from
the original reactors.

It has systematically refused to allow International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA)
inspectors into its nuclear facility at the Yongbyon
research base north of the capital."

Dick Cheney: End the War with Iraq (1991)

Defense Secretary Dick Cheney defends the decision to end the war. "If you're going
to go in and try to topple Saddam Hussein," Cheney said, "you have to go to
Baghdad. Once you've got Baghdad, it's not clear what you do with it. It's not clear
what kind of government you would put in place of the one that's currently there now.
Is it going to be a Shia regime, a Sunni regime or a Kurdish regime? Or one that tilts
toward the Baathists, or one that tilts toward the Islamic fundamentalists? How much
credibility is that government going to have if it's set up by the United States military
when it's there? How long does the United States military have to stay to protect the
people that sign on for that government, and what happens to it once we leave?"
Backing Down from UN "Use of Force" Demands? Maybe Not

Earlier in the day, AP got this startling piece of news:

ASSOCIATED PRESS
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 17 —   Amid a continuing and often contentious U.N.
debate on Iraq on Thursday, the United States appeared to back down from its
demands for a U.N. resolution authorizing military force against Iraq. Diplomats told
the Associated Press that the U.S. is now floating a compromise that would
drop the
tough wording explicitly threatening Iraq. They said France is studying the new offer.
The French had opposed the threat of force in the original U.S. draft proposal."

By now, FAUX News says that US diplomats are strongly denying any backing down. Considering the source, more reliable sources are needed. But it's gettin interesting.
Noelle Gets 10 Days in Jail

Just as Uncle W is in Florida to rescue Jeb's failing campaign, Noelle got her slap on the wrist in the presence of her aunt. Her family values parents did not attend - I guess they met their quota for the month of felons to be photographed with. An entry on the Free Republic board: "When will these people realize that crime and drugs do not pay? Sorry, freepers, I thought this was a thread about Clinton's brother."
Of course, while Noelle was cuffed in court, the Bush brothers were campaigning being photographed with cute little children in an elementary school. Other people's children.

War is Peace

" Either of the two
Bushes would have
been more deserving
of the Nobel award
than Carter"
So writes Michael Kelly viciously showing the propaganda media's bias. According to him, the war on Iraq and the one on Afghanistan entitles his favorite dynasty to peace prizes.(because, the effects of war outlast those of peace )

Bush on Economy: 'Saddam must be overthrown'

WASHINGTON, DC—Amid growing concerns about the faltering stock market and
deepening recession, President Bush vowed to tackle the nation's economic woes
head-on Tuesday, assuring the American people that he "will not rest" until Saddam
Hussein is removed from power."

OK, it's the Onion, but once again, they got it.
Let the Drunks Drive, Forgive Iraqui Torturers, NRA Rules!

Such is the stuff of Doug Forrester's old editorials in New York Times. This is too easy!
"Guns do
nothing. Drunk driving
do nothing, Terrorism do nothing. He's do-nothing Doug."

More Devious Plans that were Supposed to Stay Secret

WASHINGTON -- A
White House intern
"mistakenly"
forwarded to dozens
of Hispanic leaders an
e-mail that described
the Senate's senior
Democrat as
"doddering old Bob
Byrd, the senile
senator from West
Virginia," an
administration
spokeswoman has
told The Denver Post.
Senator Byrd's Concluding Remarks

this country of ours - who have urged me to keep up the fight.  I am only one
Senator from a small state, yet in the past week I have received nearly
20,000 telephone calls and nearly 50,000 e-mails supporting my position.

I want all of those people across America who took the time to contact me to
know how their words have heartened me and sustained me in my efforts to turn
the tide of opinion in the Senate. They are my heroes, and I will never
forget the remarkable courage and patriotism that reverberated in the fervor
of their messages.

I say to the people of America, to those who have encouraged me and others to
uphold the principles of the Constitution, keep up the fight.  Keep fighting
for what is right.  Let your voices be heard.  I will always listen to you,
and I hope that the President will begin to listen to you.  May God bless you
in your endeavors.>>

From Rep Pete Stark address in Congress:

"You know, three years ago in December, Molly Ivins, an observer of Texas politics, wrote: 'For an upper-class white
boy, Bush comes on way too hard. At a guess, to make up for being an upper-class white boy.'

"'Somebody,' she said, 'should be worrying about how all this could affect his handling of future encounters with some
Saddam Hussein.' How prophetic, Ms. Ivins.

"Let us not forget that our president -- our commander in chief -- has no experience with, or knowledge of, war. In fact, he
admits that he was at best ambivalent about the Vietnam War. He skirted his own military service and then failed to serve
out his time in the National Guard. And, he reported years later that at the height of that conflict in 1968 he didn't notice
'any heavy stuff going on.'"
Gore Would Have Voted "No" on the Iraq Resolution

Al Gore, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000, would not have supported
the use-of-force resolution passed by the House or Senate, said spokesman Jano
Cabrera. Several members of Congress considering a run for president voted for
the resolution giving President Bush the authority to use force if necessary
to disarm Iraq.

"While (Gore) respects those who do support the resolution, he feels the
strategy chosen by the president is a serious mistake," Cabrera said. "The
president's strategy confuses the threat posed by Iraq, which is serious
indeed, and the threat posed by Osama, which is both serious and imminent."

Elections News:

Mike Taylor: "I'm going home, Dems made me look gay" Simon"I am sorry I was caught lying about Davis, but it's not my fault and I won't apologize" Jeb: "My devious plans were supposed to be secret" Ganske: "How dare they find out what a jerk I am?" Forrester: "I want to run against the invisible opponent"
Congress Gives Bush* the Right to Conquer the World.

Robert Byrd:

How have we gotten to this low point in the history of Congress? Are
we too feeble to resist the demands of a president who is determined
to bend the collective will of Congress to his will — a president
who is changing the conventional understanding of the term
"self-defense"? And why are we allowing the executive to rush our
decision-making right before an election?

Harken used Enron-like Fraudulent Tactics - Bush* Personally Approved Them

When asked last summer if he approved the phony schemes to cover Harken's debt, Bush dismissed the reporters with a "You'll have to check the minutes for that". To everyone's surprise, some students did just that and found Bush*s personal role in the fraud as well as a very strange use of the Harvard's alumni money by bailing out a certain failing Harken CEO who now preaches corporate responsibility..Of course, the family friendly SEC still doesn't disclose their investigation that has been put on ice.

Memo to McBride Campaign: Pay Attention!!!!

> * Also during the meeting, Bush said he wants to give the Legislature the
> power to set teachers' salaries, bypassing locally elected school boards. He
> acknowledged the move was a ``philosophical reversal'' away from the
> Republican mantra for local control, and that he didn't wish to discuss the
> change publicly until after the election
SCOTUS Alowws NJ to Have an Election; It's the Economy Stupid!

The Supreme Court decided that it will not impose a one party election on New Jersey.
A NYT/CBS poll reveals that people care about the economy not war (as election issue) and, moreover they don't want war (as yesterday's protests indicated. Bush*'s speech on war tonight won't be on any network - guess they need to take the bloopers out first.

Jebbie also Revealed Devious Plan of Pitting Children against Seniors

At the same meeting, Jebbie boasted his "devious plan" of defeating a popular class reduction amendment by saying that to pay for it, he'd have to cut nursing home funds.
His only defense: "I thought the meeting was private" In other words, this was supposed to be a SECRET devious plan!

Jebbie Caught Laughing at the Missing Child Family

Thinking no one was watching, Jeb Bush let his hair down with the panhandle wingnuts and told them "the juicy details" about Rylia Willson's caretakers. It amused him greately that they were 2 women, therefore they had to be lesbians (in reality, sisters). Rylia Willson would be 6 this Sunday and Jeb's Child services lost her...
This family has always found the idea of responsibility hillarious...

Voter's Rights vs. Predictability

That was the debate in the New Jersey Supreme Court yesterday, with the GOP being consistent in their attack on voting rights by trying to ensure their out of touch candidate an race free pf opposition - the one party "elections". All 7 Judges went for voting rights. Interestingly, the Greens and the Libertarians joined the "Predictability" war on voters. So now, it's on to SCOTUS. Will Scalia engineer the take-over yet again. or will Souter stop this before it becomes Coup Part Deux?

Helen Thomas: Why is a Family Grudge Part of the US Policy?

Q Why is a family grudge included in the official paper that states our position on war
and peace?

MR. FLEISCHER: Helen, if you're referring to an attempt to assassinate a former
United States President, which Iraq tried to do when former President Bush went to
Kuwait --

Q Does that justify killing thousands of people in Iraq?

MR. FLEISCHER: Helen, I think it's also why former President Clinton responded to
that assassination attempt with four days of Cruise missile strikes against Iraq,
because an attempt to assassinate a former United States President --

Q So this is a repetition to try again, for that reason?

MR. FLEISCHER: I think the President cited multiple reasons why Saddam Hussein is
a menace and a threat.

Q But you people are acting like this is a conversion to democracy by the sword. How
can you -- I mean, are you going to kill all these people, to get democracy?

Jeb protests too much

The Florida's newspaper is calling us conspiracy nuts as advancing a curious explanation about Jeb having the faces on a screen with the names queued.
"

McBride spokesman Alan Stonecipher, who called
Putney after getting a phone
call from a viewer about the Fran-Sylvia
connection, said his candidate did not
recall seeing the queued-up names and faces,
but he accepts the explanation."

Oh, so Jebbie had his own very special monitor - now I am convinced!

Jebbie cheated on the debate too?

Bartcoppers think so, and the story has legs. Here's how Conason puts it:

"Either Jeb Bush has extraordinary psychic powers, or he learned something he
shouldn't have known before last Friday's Florida Network gubernatorial debate. The
McBride campaign is wondering why the governor knew the name of a citizen
questioner before her turn came -- because under the rules of the debate at WJXT, the
Jacksonville TV station, neither candidate was supposed to be told anything in
advance."
Taking "Yes" for an answer is hard for GOP

As Joe Conason comments in his Salon diary:
Just four days ago, Republican senatorial candidate Douglas Forrester demanded
that Bob Torricelli step down. "Mr. Torricelli has disgraced himself and New Jersey,"
he said. "The people of New Jersey deserve better. I reiterate my call for Mr.
Torricelli to resign his office and apologize to the people of New Jersey." But before
Torricelli decided to follow his rival's advice, Forrester's friends began whining."

That sounds familiar. Kinda like when Bush asked UN to make Saddam allow inspections. Then when Saddam did just that....
