National terror alert lowered to yellow;
public told to stay 'defiant and alert'

JOHN J. LUMPKIN, Associated Press Writer

The Bush administration lowered the national terror alert
Thursday from orange to yellow, suggesting the immediate
threat of an attack on U.S. soil had eased. Still, Americans were
warned to "continue to be defiant and alert."

Morford's take:

== Please Also Be A Little Clenched Up And Twitchy ==
The Bush administration lowered the national terror alert Thursday from
orange to yellow, suggesting the immediate threat of an attack on U.S.
soil had eased, and also indicating that the administration was, as
everyone suspected, full of crap when it issued the warning in the
first place, which just so happened to coincide with Powell trying to
hammer the UN into submission so Junior could launch his sniveling
little war. Still, Americans were warned to "continue to be defiant and
alert," whatever the hell that means, defiant as in what, righteous and
angry and insistent that no gol durn furriner id gonna come over here
and blowd up your face? Alert as in what, beware your
suspicious-looking Pakistani grocery clerk? Double check your felafel
for anthrax? The administration also really, really urges all Americans
to be also "docile and easily misled," "ream-able and slappable," or in
the case of the twins and Noelle, "drunk and disorderly and in deep
need of a mental colonic.
