Tom Lantos and historical myopia

I read yesterday that the democratic congressman from California pronounced that France and Germany are beneath contempt for trying to avoid war. He seems to think that we saved them both from communism (a little revisionism here) and they should be grateful. His ignorance is inexcusable as a Holocaust survivor.
Today I caught his statement in a movie about the Hungarian Holocaust. He was saying: "We naively thought at the time: "It cannot happen here, this is Hungary"
He was talking about fascism and it seems he didn't learn anything from his life experience. How many times in life are you entitled to naivete, Tom?
