I agree with Robbedvoter that the media was principally responsible for the problems that befell the Clark candidacy.  It is also true that mistakes were made by campaign staffers. However, the reporters like to be "sucked up to," and they also think the measure of a candidate is how he/she can handle the media's manipulative games by staying on message no matter what kind of crap the journalists decide to throw at them. 
I think the measure of a candidate should be assessed by policy proposals, experience, etc., not sound-bite friendly games of footsie with the reporters.
