Okay, I will give you my take.  I just got off of the phone with one of my elected officials (good news coming tomorrow, by the way, regarding Wes).
I asked him his opinion on what Clark said and he replied the following:
"All of the prospective VP's will say that.  No one wants to appear that they are campaigning to be VP.  No one."
That does not mean that General Clark is interested in being VP, but it definitely doesn't mean he would say 'no' if asked.  Especially considering the remarks that followed the 'no', and the image attached to the email.  He will do whatever Kerry asks him to do, and support Kerry in every way.
So, I would hesitate to be disappointed about it--it really doesn't mean very much and speculating would be the wrong thing to do.  For right now, it is what it is:  NONE of the potential VP candidates will say "sure, I am interested".  They will all say 'no' or divert the question.
Could you imagine the headlines if he did say 'yes' or diverted the question?
CLARK PANDERING TO BE KERRY'S VP
CLARK WAS IN IT TO BE VP THE WHOLE TIME
And he would be spoofed, just like Edwards, on SNL.
