Posted this off the end of the last thread. With regards to new sites, political action, etc.
Obviously nothing wrong with creating another web site, but you might want to make sure this one is going away before you abandon it. There is substantial political capital here: great blog software, a community of like-minded politically active people united behind specific policy goals, donor lists, etc. If I were Wes Clark I'd make sure I was really entirely through with politics before I just flipped the switch on this site.
It wouldn't be much of a leap to start a PAC, like moveon.org or something like that. Call it WesPAC maybe; push to get some of the policy ideas of the Clark campaign actually implimented. Letter writing, phone calls, fund raising... sounds like a PAC to me. Why should Ralph Reed have all the fun? But, aside from that If folks are willing to donate money to keep the site going, then why go to the trouble of starting a new one? The software here is really very cool; any new site will be a step backwards, IMO.
Maybe before we all go running off somewhere else, we should make an effort to keep this site alive? Ask Wes not to shut it down? Pass the hat to keep the lights on? In any case, I think Clark should give it some serious though before simply pissing it all away. He's made sacrifices, and worked very hard, and his political organization is what he has to show for it. Much of that oranization will necessarily have to end, but he can preserve this part, the virtual part, if he wants to.
A General needs an army, right? :o)
