I just broke the news to my nine year old son a few minutes ago...
After being in depressed mode since finding out Wes was pulling out on Tuesday night I started coming out of it, especially after watching Wes on Charlie Rose last night.  My spirits continued rising today as I watched Clark make that glorious speech endorsing Kerry and recieve the praise from Kerry that he so deserved, and knowing that for the time being Clark will play an important and influential role in public life in some manner, even though he will not become president yet.  So, I was at my computer checking out the Clark blog.  My son came into the room.  I had avoided telling him about Wes dropping out thus far because of trying to deal with my own disappoint.
Jake (my son)  really liked Wes a lot and was sure that Clark was going to be our next President.   It didn't hurt that over the months he got a lot of exposure to Wes, since our tv was often tuned in to c-span and other shows, and he noticed me volunteering in various ways.   So,  when he walked into the room and ws looking at the Clark blog over my shoulder, I turned around to face him and told him that Clark was not in the race anymore, that he had dropped his bid for now because he was losing in the primaries.   My son just stared in shock for a moment.  Then he said, "Oh no.  That means that idiot Bush is going to be president again??!"   I told him that another democrat named Kerry is leading in the races and that Clark is going to help Kerry win and be an important part of getting Bush out of office and that Wes will probrably be a partner of Kerry's in some way in the new government.  He  was really relieved and went back to playing legos in his room quite happily.
