It was a very poorly framed quote. I think those of us who have followed Mr. Bennett's work with the campaign are aware that he was a great deal more loyal than the quote inferred. The quote could easily have been clarified and it wasn't, which speaks more to the article's intent than content.
The 'Grey Lady' isn't what she used to be. Wait... Yes, she is. It makes you wonder how the NYT ever became the "paper of record" in the first place...
If you have Mr. Bennett's ear, tell him "Thank you" for his excellent work on behalf of Clark's campaign and people like me who so admired this outstanding candidate and awesome human being.
